Mark Twain once wrote, "Wrinkles should simply tell you where smiles used to be." This should remove some of the negative feelings one gets when they see their first wrinkle. But is it really a wrinkle? Or is it what Mark Twain suggested, leftovers from a positive happy experience? Sometimes you can hide wrinkles but you may not want other people to see what you are hiding them with. You would like it to be as natural a process as possible. Color cosmetics with some decent coverage can usually do the trick. But what if a person doesn't want to wear any makeup? This may be the hardest part of the formulator's job.

Treatment creams and lotions promise to act on wrinkles and age spots. Many of these products don't do anything at all. The claims made by the product say that it will "reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles." This is what the FDA says we must say on the label. If it said it eliminated the wrinkles, the product would then be a drug because it would physically alter the skin. They don't do anything to the lines at all. Cosmetics are not supposed to do this. They are strictly for beautification and color. So ingredients can be added to color cosmetics to make them "functional."

We know what causes wrinkles - mainly sun over-exposure, environmental pollutants, stress and heredity. Many of these conditions are just much too difficult to control. So what do you do? You have the option of treating them cosmetically or medically. If you are one of those who is deathly afraid of "Botox", then your only other alternative is cosmetics. There are some medical treatment that are not as drastic as Botox. But it's sad to say that the wrinkles will always be there. And they will increase and become more and more evident. So that one more wrinkle won't make one bit of difference at all.

Since skin ages all over the body, and more where there is exposure to the elements such as sunlight, the only real thing to do is hunt around for the best product for you. There are many products on the market all claiming to be the best. But only you will know which product will work best for your skin to make you look and feel better. Most products will give you the appearance of smoother, younger looking skin and help hide those dreaded lines. You just have to be comfortable with it. Happy hunting!
